WASHINGTON, D.C. – Saint Louis junior center Robbie Avila was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week, the league announced today. He shares the honor with Saint Joseph’s Xzavyier Brown.
Avila helped the Billikens to a road win at Davidson and a home triumph against Loyola Chicago last week. He averaged 23.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in the two games while shooting 57.7 percent from the field, 50 percent from 3-point range and 86.7 percent from the stripe.
In the win over Davidson, Avila scored 19 points and had the game-winning basket with less than five seconds remaining in the game.
He followed up those heroics with a season-high-tying 28 points in the win against Loyola Chicago at Chaifetz Arena. Avila had a career day at the charity stripe by hitting 13-of-15, and he also drained three treys as the Billikens broke the school record for 3-pointers made in a game with 18.
For the season, Avila leads the Bills with 17.5 ppg, which ranks third in the A-10. He leads all centers in NCAA Division I with 4.0 assists per game and 1.7 3-pointers made per game.
Avila and Billikens head to Dayton for a pivotal A-10 matchup on Tuesday night. Game time on ESPN+ is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CT).
