Predicting Wrestlemania 42 Main Event Matches

On Easter weekend, the WWE Universe was treated to some fun at Wrestlemania 41. All but two titles changed hands. There were surprises, such as the return of “The Man,” Becky Lynch, and an appearance by “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. History was made by John Cena, who defeated Cody Rhodes to win his 17th World Championship in the Main Event of Wrestlemania Sunday. The Main Event of Wrestlemania Saturday saw Paul Heyman betray C.M. Punk and Roman Reigns and help Seth Rollins win a triple-threat match. Now that Wresltemania 41 is in the books, we will look ahead to Wresltemania 42 in New Orleans. Specifically, we will try to predict the main events for Wrestlemania 42.

Predicting Wrestlemania 42 Main Event Matches

Wrestlemania Saturday’s Main Event

Cody Rhodes vs. The Rock

Since Wresltemania 40, fans have speculated that we would see Cody vs. Rock at some point. While the two have not met in the ring yet, there is clearly plenty of fuel for a feud.

What is interesting about the Cody/Rock dynamic is that Cody’s title reign started with the Rock and ended with the Rock. The Rock tried to get involved at Wresltemania 40, only to be stopped by the Undertaker, allowing Cody to finish the story. On Wrestlemania Sunday, while not appearing physically, Rock made his impact felt by sending in Travis Scott to interfere and allow Cena to beat Cody for the title.

Next Wrestlemania will be the perfect time for Cody and Rock to fight. We are likely not done with Cody vs. Cena yet, so there are opportunities for the WWE to have the two clash in New Orleans.

Who would win? The “American Nightmare,” of course! Cody pins Rock to win the main event of Wrestlemania Saturday.

Wrestlemania Sunday’s Main Event

World Heavyweight Championship: Seth Rollins (Champion with Paul Heyman) vs. Roman Reigns vs. C.M. Punk

Yes, we are taking the main event of this year’s Wrestlemania Saturday and pasting it into the main event for next year’s Wrestlemania Sunday. There will be, however, a few changes. Instead of being in Punk’s corner, Paul Heyman will continue serving Seth Rollins. Rollins, meanwhile, will enter the match as the World Heavyweight Champion. There are multiple ways in which Rollins can get his hands on the title. He could win Money in the Bank and successfully cash in. He could also win it at Summerslam or another event in a regular match.

Before we go any further, we want to ask you this question. Does Rollins vs. Reigns vs. Punk not feel like the Shield triple-threat Wrestlemania match we never got? Take out Dean Ambrose and insert Punk. It is a shame we never got a Wrestlemania triple-threat match for a title with the Shield. Having one with Punk in Ambrose’s place will work as it is.

What makes this match work is that there is plenty of hostility between the three to carry this feud into the next Wrestlemania. Now that Rollins is the new “Paul Heyman guy,” a new element has been added to this feud. Instead of being the afterthought, Rollins is now the centerpiece. Having Rollins win the World Heavyweight Championship will only deepen the intensity.

The road to get to this triple-threat main event can be exciting as well. The WWE could have Punk win the 2026 Royal Rumble and choose to face Rollins. That alone could be a main event. Reigns, however, could be inserted into the match by having him win the 2026 Elimination Chamber. In this scenario, all three have earned their place in the match.

The question remains: who walks out of Wrestlemania 42 with the World Heavyweight Championship? Reigns has never gotten actual retribution for Rollins turning on the Shield. While he did brutalize Rollins at the 2022 Royal Rumble, that particular installment of the feud has become an afterthought. As such, there is a case for Reigns to win.

At the same time, Rollins could retain the title and walk out of Wrestlemania still on stop. He could even win the title by pinning Reigns and Punk simultaneously. A statement finish without a doubt.

However, should this match take place, Punk needs to win the championship. Punk has not been in the title discussion since his return to WWE (albeit he would have had it not been for an injury). Cody Rhodes is the only star who draws a bigger crowd reaction than Punk. Punk should get his Wrestlemania moment.

Much Time Left

Of course, many months are separating us from Wrestlemania 42.  Who knows what will happen between now and then? We should sit back and enjoy while also hoping “Stone Cold” does not get anywhere near any of us with an ATV.
