ST. LOUIS, MO – In honor of Veterans Day, Cardinals Care, the charitable arm of the St. Louis Cardinals, has issued $25,000 in grants to support local non-profit organizations that serve Veterans. The Armed Services YMCA Fort Leonard WoodThe Kaufman FundMissouri Veterans Endeavor, Got Your Six Support Dogs and St. Louis Women’s Post 404 will each receive funds to further their support of local Veterans.

“Cardinals Care is proud to support these organizations that serve the brave men and women who sacrificed so much to serve our country,” said Michael Hall, Vice President of Community Relations & Executive Director of Cardinals Care.
Missouri Veterans Endeavor (MOVE) is a long term supportive Veteran community that provides Veterans and their family members who are experiencing homelessness with permanent housing, social work-based case management services, holistic therapeutic services, attachment to needed resources in the community, and social activities and engagement with the greater St. Louis Community.  The grant will be used to support rehabbing current apartments to make them ready to welcome new Veterans. Cardinals Alumni Lonnie Maclin and Scott Terry will visit MOVE today for a picnic lunch with the Veterans and their families.

The Armed Services YMCA Fort Leonard Wood empowers military families, no matter who they are or where they’re from, by ensuring access to resources, relationships, and opportunities for all to learn, grow, and thrive.  The grant will be used to stock the food pantry at the Armed Services YMCA at Fort Leonard Wood in support of military and veteran households both on base and in the surrounding community.

The Kaufman Fund supports St Louis area Veterans and their children who are at risk of abuse or poverty, and in need of food, shelter, clothing, and medical care.  The grant will fund the Trees for Vets program to provide free Christmas trees and stands to Veterans and their families. Cardinals Alumni will be on hand to help distribute trees and Cardinals promotional items to children at the distribution event.

Got Your Six Support Dogs is committed to providing specialized service dogs to veterans and first-responders suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and/or sexual trauma. Grant funds will provide meals for Veterans during the two-week training and pairing process with their service dog.

St. Louis Women’s Service Post 404 supports female Veterans in need. The grant will be used to provide Veterans with life necessities.

Earlier this year, Cardinals Care issued a grant to the Veterans Community Project St. Louis to support the furnishing of two tiny homes for Veterans transitioning from homelessness and purchased baby swings, tummy time mats and bath seats for the 11th Annual Women Warrior Baby Shower to support expectant mothers who either serve in the military or are the spouse of an active military member.
