Lionsgate has just unleashed the first official trailer for Mutiny, the new action-packed thriller starring Jason Statham as a man framed for murder and forced into a desperate fight for survival. Set for release in theaters on August 21, 2026, the film reunites Statham with director Jean-François Richet (Plane) for what looks like a return to the star’s signature brand of relentless, hard-hitting action.
In Mutiny, Statham plays Cole Reed, a battle-hardened former Special Forces operative and ex-NYPD officer now working private security. When his billionaire industrialist boss is gunned down right in front of him, Reed is immediately framed for the killing. With the authorities closing in and a shadowy international conspiracy unraveling around him, Reed goes on the run—boarding a cargo ship and battling both his pursuers and the unforgiving open ocean.
The newly released trailer promises exactly what Statham fans crave: gritty, no-frills thrills loaded with intense chase sequences, brutal close-quarters combat, and jaw-dropping set pieces on the high seas. Early footage highlights Reed’s resourcefulness and physicality as he clings to life (and the side of a massive vessel) while the waves crash around him. The trailer’s tone is lean and mean—classic Statham, amplified by the maritime setting that adds a fresh layer of danger and isolation.
The accompanying poster—released just ahead of the trailer—perfectly captures the film’s vibe: Statham hangs precariously off the hull of a ship in churning waters, gun drawn, with the tagline “There’s blood in the water” splashed across the bottom. It’s a visual that screams high-stakes naval mayhem.
Statham also serves as a producer alongside Marc Butan through Punch Palace Productions. The screenplay is by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis (who also worked on Plane), and the cast is rounded out by Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders, Malignant), Roland Møller, Jason Wong, Arnas Fedaravičius, and Adrian Lester.
After shifting from an earlier January slot to a wide summer release, Mutiny is positioned as one of the year’s biggest action events. With Richet behind the camera and Statham doing what he does best—delivering raw, physical spectacle—this is shaping up to be the kind of crowd-pleasing thriller that plays like gangbusters on the big screen.
The full official trailer is available now on YouTube. If you’re in the mood for non-stop action, betrayal, and Statham going full throttle on the water, this one’s for you.
