Big Time Rush performed and chatted with the crowd of mainly women in their early 20s/teens Sunday night at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre on their Forever tour. A certain generation of fans fell in love with then-teens Logan, James, Carlos, and Kendall on their Nickelodeon hit show Big Time Rush when it aired from 2009 – 2013. And a newer generation has also been able to after Netflix added the charming, goofy seasons in 2021.
Blasting off the cooler, yet humid St. Louis night with “Windows Down” just about 9 p.m., seemingly every Rushers (fan) in attendance whipped out their phone to capture their teen idol crush singing (what could only be direct to them).
For the next two hours, their loosely choreographed sets (or acts as they’re being called on this tour) harkened back to days on their TV show where they were known not to be the most coordinated. But that’s part of their charm. With their easy-going demeanor, these four now barely 30-somethings connected with the audience because they’re not so slick as to not be “real.”
Blocked scaffolding of sorts fitted with lighting and smoke machines took up a large swath of the stage with the backing band flanking either side as well as a small area for 20-30 lucky Rushers who were able to watch on stage.
When the Rushers weren’t singing along to the older and newer pop songs BTR performed, the volume of their near-constant cheers reacting to songs and questions poised by band members was deafening.
BTR’s 24-song concert included hits such as “Any Kind of Guy” and “Halfway There” to the newly-released “Honey.”
On his fourth night opening for BTR, The X-Factor contestant Spencer Sutherland took to the stage at 8 p.m. to the delight of everyone already in the crowd. His first time in St. Louis, Sutherland wowed during his 30-minute set filled with his pop/R&B sound and his soaring falsetto on such songs as “Sweater.”
