Hoots Sign Maryville Sophomore Sam Cardwell for 2025 Prospect League Season

Cardwell returns to the Hoots after finishing in the top-50 league rankings in strikeouts and wins during the 2024 summer season.

O’FALLON, Mo. – The O’Fallon Hoots, proud members of the Prospect League, announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Sam Cardwell for the 2025 summer season. Cardwell is competing for his second season with the O’Fallon Hoots.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hurler pitched 9 ⅓ innings for the 2023 Shredded Cheese in the CarShield Collegiate League (CCL), recording ten strikeouts and finishing with a 1-0 record on the season. He continued to gain experience over the summer of 2024 with the O’Fallon Hoots, appearing in 12 games with three starts. He earned three wins and one save, tossing 25 ⅔ innings and striking out 33 batters, good for an 11.57 strikeouts-per-game average. He finished top-50 in the Prospect League in strikeouts and wins.

In his freshman campaign at Division II Maryville University, Cardwell appeared in seven contests on the mound, including four starts, and pitched to a 6.11 ERA with 14 strikeouts and a .266 batting average against. So far in the Maryville 2025 season, Cardwell has made six appearances, including a standout 5.0-inning scoreless outing against Illinois-Springfield. Across 15 ⅔ innings, he’s posted a 3.45 ERA with 14 strikeouts, 10 walks, and a .224 batting average against, continuing to build on his progress from last year.
