Former Saint Louis point guard Yuri Collins has been signed to a 10-day contract by the Golden State Warriors. He will join the team ahead of their game Friday at Sacramento.
Collins has played the last two seasons with the Warriors’ G League affiliate in Santa Cruz, Calif. He earned the call-up after an impressive campaign this season as he averages 16.2 points and 10.5 assists in 18 regular-season games. His 189 assists leads the G League.
Collins holds every assists record in SLU history and led the NCAA in assists and assists per game his junior and senior seasons. In 116 career games at Saint Louis from 2019-23, he averaged 8.6 points and 7.6 assists. Collins is a two-time first-team All-Atlantic 10 Conference selection and was a finalist in 2023 for the Bob Cousy Award as the nation’s top point guard.
Collins joins former Billiken teammate Jordan Goodwin (Los Angeles Lakers) in the NBA. It is the first time since 1968-69 that the Billikens have had multiple former players on active NBA rosters. That year, Bob Ferry played in seven games for Baltimore; Rich Nieman played in 34 games for Detroit and Milwaukee; and Barry Orms played in 64 games for Baltimore. Former Billiken Gene Moore was also very prominent in the ABA during that era, appearing in 465 games with five different franchises from 1968-75. Also in 1968-69, former Billiken Don Dee played in 58 games for Indiana in the ABA.
Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Ed Macauley is the most decorated Billiken NBA player. He was a seven-time All-Star while scoring more than 11,000 points across 10 seasons in Boston and St. Louis. Macauley won the NBA title with the St. Louis Hawks in 1957-58. He has his No. 22 retired by the Boston Celtics.
