Tucson-based, alternative rock band Commoner, announced their new EP Change of Heart. It is set to be released on April 4th via New Morality Zine. With this announcement, they released the title track and an accompanying music video which you can watch here

The title track “Change of Heart” is a hard-hitting song with deep lyrical cuts about straying interpersonal relationships. The accompanying music video is full of shifting, fragmented edits of the band performing to coincide with the theme of people changing around you.

This new EP blends emo, alternative, and post-hardcore elements with a raw, dynamic sound. Their music moves between heavy, cathartic moments and stripped-back vulnerability, striking a balance that feels intense and personal.

The process of recording this EP was truly healing for me. We had been sitting on these songs for awhile and getting a little stir crazy with listening to them over and over again,” shared lead singer Romin Mattison. “It was really awesome to hear the final product and be able to listen back to the memories in real time.”

Produced alongside Zach Tuch (Touche Amore, Knocked Loose, Zulu), this EP has really honed in on what makes their sound hit: emotive vocals, tight rhythms, and an aggressive edge that pulls listeners in. It boasts a total of five dynamictracks.

Change of Heart Track List:
1.    Test Your Luck
2.    Change of Heart
3.    Parting Gift
B-Sides (Vinyl Only)
4.    Misery Mistaken

Made up of Romin Mattison (Vocals), Matthew Bryant (Bass), Jeremy Buck (Guitar), Beto Marroquin (Guitar), and Tyler Casillo (Drums). Influenced by 2010s emo and early 2000s alternative bands like Citizen, Movements, Incubus, and Fuel, the band delivers their music with an energy that translates powerfully on stage.

About Commoner
Commoner is a band from Tucson, AZ that blends emo, alternative, and post-hardcore with a raw, dynamic sound. Their music moves between heavy, cathartic moments and stripped-back vulnerability, striking a balance that feels both intense and personal. Working alongside Zach Tuch (Touche Amore, Knocked Loose, Zulu), they’ve honed in on what makes their sound hit: emotive vocals, tight rhythms, and an aggressive edge that pulls you in.

It all started when Romin Mattison wrote Japanese Apartments as a solo project, but things really took shape when Matthew Bryant joined on bass, followed by Jeremy Buck, Beto Marroquin, and Tyler Casillo, solidifying the band’s lineup and sonic identity.

In 2023 and 2024, they recorded two singles, sharpening their sound and pushing their songwriting forward. The Winter Promo introduced tracks like “Misery Mistaken” and “Whatever’s Left is Yours,” channeling themes of abandonment, neglect, and healing.

Influenced by 2010s emo and early 2000s alternative bands like Citizen, Movements, Incubus, and Fuel, Commoner delivers their music with an energy that translates powerfully on stage. Their shows are high-energy and immersive, built on the kind of honesty that connects with people. With plans to tour and keep pushing forward, they’re just getting started.
