Indianapolis-based “fake emo” outfit Summerbruise has officially dropped their highly anticipated new studio album, Infinity Guise, today via SideOneDummy Records. Marking a significant evolution for the band, this full-length release transforms their scrappy origins into a robust, five-piece sound, blending humor, introspection, and Midwest emo vibes across 12 tracks. Recorded, produced, and mixed by Nicholas Starrantino at Deadend Studio, the album captures the group’s growth while staying true to their self-deprecating roots.
At the heart of Infinity Guise is a diverse tracklist that explores themes of self-doubt, relationships, and the absurdities of life. Highlights include opener “Making it Worse,” which sets a tone of humorous escalation, and “Raptured Trax pt. 4,” a nod to pop-punk influences like Sum 41. Other standouts like “Meet Hell Halfway” lean into the band’s classic sound with punchy setups, while “Bottle Episode” delves into a dialogue between past and future selves about the highs and lows of pursuing music. The album’s instrumental closer, “Was The Grink There?,” grapples with inward-directed anger, rounding out a collection that’s both despondent and dynamic.
One of the album’s focal points is the track “Cookie Monster Snapback,” a unique collaboration featuring Tades Sanville of Hot Mulligan. This marks Summerbruise’s first non-autobiographical song, drawing inspiration from a real-life student scenario. What started as a meme riff based on Dave Matthews Band’s “Ants Marching” evolved into a Midwest emo gem, with Sanville’s guest vocals adding an extra layer of energy and relatability. It’s a playful yet poignant addition that fans of both bands will appreciate for its clever chord progressions and thematic depth.
