Head Coach Yoann Damet

On getting the win tonight:

I think what I said to the guys is that they work so hard every single day, you know, to get those results. And we put a lot into the way we want to play and sometimes it’s crazy, like you get the results, but you’re not happy of the way you perform. Then sometimes you are happy about the way you perform, but you’re not happy about the results. So it’s a relentless pursuit of what we want to achieve, you know. So tonight, it’s about like enjoying our first win on the road of the season and our first clean sheet of the season as well. So we take both, take a deep breath, and we’ll focus on the things we need to do better tomorrow.

On starting Sangbin:

Listen, I thought he played well against Tulsa. I thought the game after he came in quite well against Seattle, unfortunately, like, he picked up an injury before the San Jose game. I think in that game he could have been one to start the game. And then, of course, like, you cannot throw him back in like that. So we knew we were going to play against the high line when you were going to play against an aggressive team, and we wanted to have, like, someone able to stretch and get behind and bring some more going forward. So we thought that was the right decision to make tonight. And I’m happy for him. That’s the reward as well of how he’s been for the past few weeks, like, I think he’s put his head down, and he puts a ton of work in, and I’m happy for him that he gets a reward today with the goal.

On playing with the lead tonight:

It’s also something we’ve been speaking about for a long time. You know, when we lead the game and you’re in the driver’s seats, then the pressure changes side, you know? And then, of course, you’d like to score the second. Of course, you’d like to stay on the front foot and keep control of the game. But I think, like the game becomes different when, when you get to it. So we had a taste of that tonight, and hopefully we can continue on that path.

Defender Jaziel Orozco

His thoughts on the win tonight:

I mean, we’re looking for it. It’s something that the group is just happy about. Adding the clean sheet as well is something that gives us more confidence, and we’re really happy about that, to get the first three points away. And yeah, I mean, it’s a tough battle, windy night. There were a lot of things that we know are going to be a fight. It was going to be a dog fight. But at the end of day, when you get the three points, you’re happy. We go back during the week to see what we can improve on. Of course, there are a lot of things that we have to improve on. But at the end of the day, getting the three points away, it was something that we were looking for.

On being back in the lineup after the injury:

Of course, I feel like at the last 10 minutes I was on a little fatigue as well, playing a different position with the wind in my back, which is okay, but yeah, just happy to be back. Happy to be back after a month that was tough for me with the concussion thing which is something that you can’t do anything. A lot of protocols and other things you have to get cleared from but at the end, just happy to be back with the team to get the win as well. So, yeah, really excited to be back with the team.

On the importance of getting results without playing your best:

I mean, again, I think that’s something we were looking for – the first win away. It’s huge for us. It’s huge for the team. Huge for confidence. Huge confidence boost. And also, again, sometimes you have to battle those games like that. It’s a fight that you want to get three points from at the end of the day. Again, the guys are really happy about it, and we just go back home and see what can we work on.
