Head Coach Yoann Damet

On tonight’s comeback and the importance for this season:

Yeah, I don’t think it’s going to flip the season; I think it’s just part of the process. Of course, you want to build on moments. I think this is a very good moment to build on in terms of getting a point on the road, especially in the fashion we did today, so it’s good. Really pleased for the guys again, the commitment tonight of the group, the mindset to keep pushing, and to go earn that point on the road was massive.

On the importance of bringing Brendan McSorley on to help tie the match:

Yes, at the end of the day, we all know what he is capable of. So, we had a plan going into the second half. Of course, the plan changed when we conceded that goal. I thought the subs did a brilliant job tonight for us, all of them. So, it was great to get Brendan at the end of it, and I hope this is going to give him a lot of confidence for the season.

On Lukas MacNaughton’s assist and his play:

Those moments are not conscious; they’re subconscious. The guys, they’re not doing it and thinking before, okay, do I believe? I think that’s a testament to the belief of those guys in terms of what we’re doing and trying to get results, trying to fight and earn everything. And I think in that moment, that’s what it is. He goes, he’s not thinking, oh, we’ll see if Roman [Bürki] can save it. And if we go down 2-0, we tried everything tonight to get a point, and it just didn’t work out. It’s just a guy that comes in and believes that he’s able to make an impact on the game, and he did. So again, like I said, for me, it’s more than just like an individual action; it embodies the collective mindset that we have in this group.

Forward Brendan McSorley

On playing in front of his friends and family tonight:

This is not home but I’m from New Jersey, this is one of the closest games that a lot of my family and friends could come to. I mean, they’ve been so supportive of me, just to be able to give them that goal was special. And hopefully I’m able to hang out with them tonight as well.

On the similarities of previous goals he has scored compared to tonight’s goal and where that comes from:

In college, my assistant coach at Providence, John Mark Andrade, just hammered home to be a fox in the box. That’s where guys score goals, so whenever there’s a chance of it going into the box, that’s where I light up. I know that’s going to be probably my best chance to score.

On the adjustments the team made to be able to tie the match:

I think Yoann, he goes for it; we’re never going to be down in the game and not try our absolute hardest to get back into it. So, while we might have gave up chances on the other end, our defense did an incredible job to be able to keep it a one score game. And then, I think of Lukas’ [MacNaughton] performance, not even for his assist, but just how he played when he came on was so good. And, yeah, his cross was unbelievable as well. So, I think, no matter what with this team, we’re going to go for it. We’re never going to just relax and think, oh, this game’s 1-0, let’s try to slowly get back into it. No, we’re going to go for it.
