St. Louis CITY SC has completed the permanent transfer of forward Nökkvi Thórisson to Dutch Eredivisie club Sparta Rotterdam, after the Dutch side exercised the purchase option included in Thórisson’s initial loan agreement.
“We’re grateful to Nökkvi for the hard work and professionalism he brought to St. Louis CITY SC,” said Lutz Pfannenstiel, St. Louis CITY Sporting Director. “He was a great teammate in the locker room and a strong representative of our club off the field. We wish him all the best as he takes the next step in his career with Sparta Rotterdam.”
Thórisson originally joined CITY SC in the summer of 2023 from Belgian club Beerschot V.A. In just his third appearance for the club, Thórisson made an immediate impact with a game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over FC Dallas on August 30, 2023. During his time in St. Louis, he made 44 appearances across all competitions, tallying six goal contributions (five goals and one assist).
