Cannibal Corpse Eviscerates The Masonic in San Francisco, 4/8/2025

San Francisco was calm… until it wasn’t.

What began as a beautiful, peaceful day in the city quickly turned into a maelstrom of blast beats, growls, and pit-fueled madness as Cannibal Corpse tore through The Masonic, leaving it bruised, bloodied, and begging for more. As part of the 2025 North American Tour—headlined by Meshuggah and joined by the legendary Carcass—Cannibal Corpse showed no signs of slowing down, delivering a set that was both surgically tight and gleefully chaotic.

The Sound: Brutal and Unrelenting

From the very first crushing chord of “Scourge of Iron,” it was evident: this was not just another Cannibal set. The band’s sound was razor-sharp, thunderous, and honed to perfection. Alex Webster’s bass lines didn’t just punch—they crushed.

With Erik Rutan and Rob Barrett unleashing feral riffs like chainsaws through flesh, and Paul Mazurkiewicz hammering out blast beats with clinical precision, the band created a wall of sound that was both massive and crystal clear. The Masonic shook beneath them—but never lost the nuance of their relentless technicality.

The Performance: Commanded by a Charismatic Monster

Corpsegrinder doesn’t just perform—he conquers. With that iconic neck-whipping headbang and vocals that sound like the gates of hell cracking open, George Fisher owned every inch of the stage. But between the carnage, he offered up flashes of his trademark dry, sarcastic humor.

Teasing the pit and joking about their collective neck pain, he had the audience laughing between songs—only to whip them right back into a frenzy with a guttural command like, “Let’s tear this place apart!” His balance of sinister charisma and down-to-earth banter makes him one of the most magnetic frontmen in extreme music.

Evisceration Plague: A Mid-Set Highlight

Midway through the set, the band launched into “Evisceration Plague”—and the response was immediate. The crowd erupted as the slow, chugging intro gave way to a mid-tempo march of pure menace. The groove-laden brutality of the track offered a slight—but punishing—reprieve from the faster cuts, and fans responded with synchronized headbanging that made the entire floor feel like it was pulsing.

The song’s eerie, mechanical rhythm filled The Masonic like the grind of a surgical saw, and Corpsegrinder’s gutturals hit like a death knell. It was a masterclass in tension and release, and a reminder of just how deep the Cannibal catalog runs.

The Venue: Masonic Mayhem

The Masonic served as the perfect backdrop for the chaos. With its clean design and stellar acoustics, it transformed into an unlikely warzone. The band’s sound was tight and towering, the lighting design added drama and depth to the brutality, and the crowd filled every corner of the venue with restless energy.

While the venue is known for hosting a wide range of performances, tonight it was baptized in blood and bone-crunching riffs.

The Moment: “Hammer Smashed Face” Detonates

When the first unmistakable riff of “Hammer Smashed Face” hit, the room exploded. Circle pits tore through the floor, crowd surfers rode waves of bodies, and fans shouted every word with religious fervor. It was pure chaos, the kind of finale that leaves your ears ringing and your heart racing.

That song remains a timeless anthem of destruction—and tonight, it was the ritual sacrifice that sealed the night in blood.
