Redbird Nation, with the Cardinals Spring Training just days away, the buzz and excitement of the 2025 MLB season lingers in the air. If there’s one thing you can take away from St. Louis, it’s that we love our Cardinals baseball. Our history runs deep throughout the city streets: two birds on one bat, Clydesdales prancing around Busch Stadium, legends forever engrained on our left field wall. Whether you’re a die-hard or a fair-weather fan, those two redbirds on that yellow bat mean more than a logo. While subtle changes have been made to our branding, we have fully embraced our rich tradition and simplistic designs. Without further ado, let’s rank the Cardinals uniforms for the 2025 MLB season.
5. Grey Road Uniforms
You may be a fan of the simple light grey uniform; I am not. Nike made a couple of minor adjustments to the jersey, but not enough to move it from last. It has no character, considering the lack of piping. Nothing about this uniform grabs you by the eyes, it just is “meh.” The saving grace of this jersey is the logo. It ties the red together from the cap and the belt, and adds an extra pop of yellow. This is a “safe” uniform; there’s nothing controversial, nothing stands out, and it’s just a standard road uniform.
4. City Connect (The Lou)
Whoa, Nelly (pun intended). Talk about a controversial uniform. You either love ‘em or you hate ‘em. Funny enough, I haven’t heard a single person talk about how much they love these uniforms. The same goes for me. With the amount of hype and intrigue that this announcement held, the final product was a major disappointment. While I am a fan of the red jersey, they absolutely butchered everything else. The hat has “STL” written in squiggly letters (perhaps done freehandedly by a 5 year old). The jersey itself has some intricate details with the red squiggly lines running down– too bad nobody can see it. As for the patch, it has come under the most scrutiny. I promise you that nobody calls Saint Louis “The Lou.” Maybe people who want to sound cool call it that, but that’s about it. Again, I’m not a hater of the red jersey or even the overall look of the uniform. However, with how excited everyone was for them, they were a serious let down.
3. White Home Uniforms
I know, I know, these are just as plain and simple as their away jerseys. There is something about these clean whites that makes Busch Stadium feel magical. The red pops off so much cleaner on the white jersey, as well as the yellow bat. The little numbers on the left rib cage add some texture to a sweet uniform. The red caps and belts infuse more red to a snowy white kit. The birds on the bat look so perfect when they don them. Again, a “safe” uniform, but it works. It remembers the past while making it a phenomenal jersey for the now.
2. White Home Alternates
Very similar to their main home uniforms, these alternates claim the number two spot. The differences in the jersey push it just ahead of the others. First, the beautiful red piping gives it another layer of color and texture; it adds an extra pop to the overall look. The cursive “Cardinals” is replaced by “St. Louis” on the bats. Finally, although it is hard to tell from this picture, the color is more of an “off-white.” It adds to the flavor of the uniform as a whole, making it such a strong alternate. It brings a more modern style to an old-school brand. I appreciate the familiarity within a newer look. Any time the Redbirds are rocking this combo, I will be ecstatic.
1. Powder Blue Road Alternates
Come on, now. You knew these were number one. These beautiful powder blue uniforms might be the best in the MLB. They are the same design as the home alternates, with the red piping and “St. Louis” rolled on the bat. The red is so enhanced on their gorgeous blue jerseys. The Cardinals organization deserved a raise for bringing this gem back to St. Louis a few years ago. Nike keeps adding subtle changes to the jersey, but it’s perfect how it is. The piping continues down the pants, adding to the smooth red and blue clash. For diehard fans that remember Whitey Ball of the 1980s, this jersey reverts back to a similar powder blue, while mixed with the newer addition of “St. Louis” jerseys to bring in the newer generation of fans. Overall, this combo is the Cardinals strongest uniform, and might just be the top kit in Cardinals history.
