The Frontier League’s 16th team announced on Wednesday that it was acquired by a new ownership group, led by Bill and Rob Janetschek and New York Boulders co-founder Shawn Reilly. Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer Jim Rice will also join the Rox as an owner/ambassador. 2025 will be labeled as the Rox’s “Revival Season”.

Bill Janetschek has been an owner of several minor league franchises, most prominently with the Greenville Drive (Boston Red Sox Single-A) and Salem Red Sox (Boston Red Sox High-A). His legacy in baseball stretches into Cooperstown, contributing to the “Whole New Ballgame” exhibit in honor of his father, Bill Sr. Rob Janetschek and Shawn Reilly currently oversee operations of the New York Boulders, who joined the Frontier League in 2019.

“We’re excited to now be a part of the great history within Brockton Rox baseball,” Team President Shawn Reilly expressed. “I remember when the Boulders came to Campanelli Stadium during our Cam-Am League days. This stadium was constantly full and had a great atmosphere, and we are certain that we will return to that excitement of professional baseball to the South Shore.”

Founded in 2002, the Brockton Rox were initially a part of the Northern League East and the Northeast League until 2005. When the Northeast League became the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, the Rox remained until 2011, when the team announced that it would be joining the collegiate ranks as a member of the Futures League. In 2019, the Can-Am merged with the Frontier League.

2025 will serve as Brockton’s return to professional status as a team for the first time in almost 15 years. Ironically, several of the Rox’s former Can-Am rivals will be the teams that the club faces off with as a member of the Frontier League.

The Rox will serve as the league’s New England club and continue to call Campanelli Stadium their home. They will take over the spot in the Atlantic Conference held by the New England Knockouts and will compete in the North Division along with the Tri-City ValleyCats, Ottawa Titans, Trois-Rivières Aigles, and Québec Capitales.

The refreshed logos for the Rox will retain the crest that was created in 2011 while adding a boxing glove as a nod to the great history of boxing in the Brockton area. Existing Rox fans will be pleased to know that K.O. the Kangaroo will remain the team’s mascot and will be featured in new team logos and uniforms.
