Memphis falls in Independence Day series opener at Indianapolis

MEMPHIS, TN – The Memphis Redbirds began a six-game road trip against the Indianapolis Indians on Tuesday night with an 8-5 loss at Victory Field.

Outfielder Moises Gomez led the way offensively for Memphis. Gomez put the Redbirds on the board in the top of the third inning with a double to bring home Masyn Winn. With two on in the fifth inning, Gomez drilled his 19th home run of the season to bring Memphis within two.

Brandon Komar made his Triple-A debut on Tuesday night. The right-handed pitcher tossed 3.2 innings, allowed seven runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out five in a spot start as Zack Thompson was scratched from his scheduled start before first pitch.

MLB Rehabber Tyler O’Neill finished 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in his first game of the rehab assignment and appeared as the designated hitter.

The Redbirds (40-42) return to AutoZone Park on Friday, July 14 to continue a six-game homestand at 7:05p.m. CDT against the Nashville Sounds. You can find more information on upcoming promotions at AutoZone Park here.
