Kate Hudson is set to produce a sequel to the 2003 romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, with the project in early development at Paramount Pictures.
Variety first reported the news exclusively, with confirmation from multiple outlets including The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, and others. Development remains in its very early stages. A screenwriter has not yet been hired, and no cast members are attached. The studio and filmmakers intend for Hudson and original co-star Matthew McConaughey to reprise their roles as magazine writer Andie Anderson and advertising executive Benjamin Barry, though any casting will depend on the eventual script and creative approach.
Hudson will produce alongside veteran producer Stacey Sher through Sher’s Shiny Penny banner. Sher’s credits include Pulp Fiction, Erin Brockovich, Django Unchained, and others.
Released in February 2003 and directed by Donald Petrie from a screenplay by Kristen Buckley, Brian Regan, and Burr Steers, the original film followed Andie as she researched a “how to” column by deliberately driving a man away in 10 days, while Benjamin simultaneously bet he could make any woman fall for him. The pair’s chemistry helped the movie become a commercial success, grossing roughly $177–180 million worldwide on a $50 million budget. It has remained a durable favorite on home video and streaming, with McConaughey previously noting that it continues to deliver strong residual payments.
The project arrives amid a wave of legacy sequels and revisits to early-2000s hits. No plot details or logline have been announced. Hudson has previously expressed openness to a sequel contingent on a strong script, and the pair previously reteamed for 2008’s Fool’s Gold.
For now, the sequel is focused on finding the right writer and creative vision. Fans of the original’s mix of screwball energy, workplace scheming, and signature moments (the love fern included) will be watching closely as development progresses.
