TOHO has unveiled the latest official teaser for Godzilla Minus Zero, the much-anticipated direct sequel to the critically acclaimed and Academy Award-winning Godzilla Minus One. The new footage arrives amid growing excitement for the film, which is scheduled for theatrical release on November 6, 2026 in North America (November 3 in Japan).
Set in 1949, two years after the events of Godzilla Minus One, the story follows the Shikishima family as they confront a fresh catastrophe. Ryunosuke Kamiki returns as Koichi Shikishima, joined once more by Minami Hamabe as Noriko Oishi. The teaser offers glimpses of an evolved, more formidable Godzilla and hints at large-scale destruction, including a striking sequence featuring the creature advancing on New York City near the Statue of Liberty.
The film’s tagline—“Returning to zero is not an option”—underscores the escalating threat and the characters’ ongoing struggle in a world still recovering from war and monstrous devastation.
Under the visionary direction of Takashi Yamazaki, who also serves as writer and VFX supervisor, Godzilla Minus Zero marks a significant achievement as the first Japanese production filmed specifically for IMAX. Shot with high-definition digital cameras certified by IMAX, the film promises unparalleled visual and auditory immersion on the big screen.
Yamazaki’s previous entry in the franchise earned widespread praise for its compelling human drama, thoughtful exploration of postwar trauma, and groundbreaking visual effects—culminating in a historic Oscar win. Expectations are high that Godzilla Minus Zero will build upon that foundation with even greater spectacle and emotional resonance.
With returning cast members anchoring the human element and a larger, more menacing Godzilla at the center of the conflict, the sequel positions itself as a must-see theatrical event. GKIDS is distributing the film in North American theaters.
