A 36-year-old man faces felony arson charges after authorities say he severed his own genitals with a kitchen knife and used the dismembered organ, doused in gasoline, to set a fire in his garage.
According to court records and police reports, Christopher Peden told investigators that around 2 a.m. on Monday, he went into the garage of his residence, used a kitchen knife to cut off his genitals, poured gasoline on the severed organ, and ignited it.
Peden then allegedly left the garage and walked away until he encountered police officers. He was taken into custody and transported for medical treatment.
Peden has been charged with one count of arson, a felony that could carry a prison sentence of up to 12 years if convicted. Additional details about his mental health status or any prior criminal history were not immediately available.
The incident is under investigation by Fort Wayne police and fire officials. No injuries to others or significant property damage beyond the garage fire were reported.
