The Green Bay Packers have secured one of their most dynamic offensive weapons for the long term, agreeing to terms with wide receiver Christian Watson on a four-year, $110.5 million contract extension that includes a $31 million signing bonus, according to multiple reports.

The deal, which averages $27.625 million per year, represents a significant vote of confidence in Watson from general manager Brian Gutekunst and the Packers’ front office. It keeps the 27-year-old through the 2029 season and positions him among the higher-paid receivers in the NFL, reflecting both his proven big-play ability and the organization’s belief in his untapped potential.

Watson, the Packers’ second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of North Dakota State, has battled injuries throughout much of his young career, including hamstring issues early on and a torn ACL that sidelined him for significant time. Yet when healthy, he has consistently flashed elite traits that make him a nightmare matchup for opposing defenses.

In 2025, Watson returned from the ACL injury to post 35 receptions for 611 yards and six touchdowns across just 10 games. His efficiency has been remarkable, leading the league in yards per target over the past two seasons. That kind of explosiveness — paired with his size, speed, and yards-after-catch ability — is precisely what the Packers are paying for as they build around quarterback Jordan Love.

This extension comes on the heels of another significant receiver commitment earlier this offseason, as the Packers also locked up Jayden Reed. With Watson now in the fold, Green Bay has secured its top three wideouts for the foreseeable future, creating a young, talented, and versatile group that should only improve as they gain more experience in Love’s offense.

For Watson, the deal provides both financial security and stability. After a one-year bridge deal last season, he now has the kind of long-term commitment that allows him to focus fully on elevating his game without the distraction of impending free agency.

“Christian has shown what he can do when he’s at full strength,” one league source familiar with the negotiations said. “The Packers see a true No. 1 receiver with star potential. They’re betting that with better health and more opportunity, he’ll become one of the premier playmakers at the position.”

Critics may point to Watson’s durability concerns and the fact that he has yet to post a 1,000-yard receiving season. However, the Packers’ willingness to invest heavily signals their internal evaluation: when Watson is on the field, his impact often outweighs the raw counting stats. His presence stretches defenses vertically, creates opportunities underneath for teammates, and has already produced several highlight-reel moments in Green Bay.

As the Packers continue their contention window with a talented roster on both sides of the ball, locking in Watson represents another proactive step by Gutekunst to maintain and build upon the core. For Christian Watson, it’s validation of his resilience and a platform to prove he belongs among the NFL’s elite receivers.
