The St. Louis Cardinals have added a promising young coach to their minor league player development staff, hiring Jason Eary as their new Minor League Infield Coach. Eary, who has quickly risen through the collegiate ranks with a focus on defensive excellence and infield fundamentals, brings a wealth of experience from successful programs and a track record of improving team fielding performance.
Eary most recently spent the past three seasons (2022-2025) at Saint Louis University (SLU), where he was hired in September 2022 as an assistant coach specializing in infield work. During his tenure with the Billikens, Eary played a key role in transforming the team’s defense, guiding SLU to two of the best fielding percentages in program history. His emphasis on technique, positioning, and situational awareness helped elevate the infield play in the competitive Atlantic 10 Conference.

Prior to his time at SLU, Eary served two years at UNLV in a player development role with the Rebels. There, he contributed to a strong 2021-2022 stretch that saw the team post a 56-35 overall record and capture the Mountain West Conference regular-season championship in 2022. His work in analytics and on-field development helped lay the foundation for that success.
Eary’s coaching journey began in earnest at Cal State Fullerton, where he spent four seasons (2016-2020) as an undergraduate manager for the Titans. During that period, the program compiled a 106-87 record, made two NCAA Super Regional appearances, and advanced to the College World Series once – a testament to the high-level environment in which Eary honed his skills.
In the summer of 2019, Eary gained valuable collegiate summer league experience as the hitting coach and first-base coach for the Topeka Golden Giants in the Mid-Plains League in Topeka, Kansas.
A 2020 graduate of Cal State Fullerton with a degree in Kinesiology, Eary’s background in movement science aligns perfectly with modern coaching trends that emphasize biomechanics and injury prevention in infield training.
Eary’s hiring comes as part of the Cardinals’ ongoing efforts to refresh and strengthen their minor league coaching ranks ahead of the 2026 season. His expertise is expected to benefit infield prospects across all levels, from the rookie complexes in Jupiter to Triple-A Memphis.
While official announcements for the full 2026 minor league staffs are typically made in January, this move signals the Cardinals’ proactive approach to building a top-tier developmental pipeline.
