Miami Horror, the acclaimed electronic project led by Australian-born, LA-based producer Benjamin Plant, shares their long-awaited album WE ALWAYS HAD TOMORROW via Nettwerk. Alongside the release of the album is a music video for the new track, “WE’RE ALL MADE OF STARS (feat. Telenova).”
On the anthemic “WE’RE ALL MADE OF STARS,” Plant sings “I never got to say goodbye,” which is a message to his inner child. The lyric “Now you can be anything you want” is echoed back by Telenova’s Angela Armstrong exploring the moment where we realize we’re no longer kids and have lost part of ourselves. Co-produced by Alessando Buccalleti (SZA, Arlo Parks, Orion Sun), the song also examines the idea of cosmic resolution that one day we will return to the stars where we came from – and that there is a peace in knowing that.
Telenova shares this on “WE’RE ALL MADE OF STARS”: “Ben showed us an early instrumental of ‘We’re All Made Of Stars’ and I fell in love with the nostalgia of it, it was so evocative and felt like we just fell into this beautiful existential conversation through the lyrics – a childlike spirit of allowing yourself to ask like, what happens when we die? Where do we go? Where did the people we lost go?”
“WE’RE ALL MADE OF STARS” is accompanied by a dynamic and captivating video directed by Redamo Rosa and features contemporary dancer/model Enya Kollek and actor Briley Stout. The visuals explore the enigmatic world of Androids grappling to comprehend human emotions. A story of impermanence, resistance, and the search for something real, the “WE’RE ALL MADE OF STARS” video imagines a world where love is more powerful than the forces that seek to contain it.
Miami Horror shares this about the video, “‘WE’RE ALL MADE OF STARS’ carries this ethereal, almost spiritual weight, questioning existence, loss, and our place in the universe. The video takes that essence and flips it into a retro sci-fi narrative, were technology and control loom over human connection. The robots symbolize our tech overlords, the TV screens the endless flood of information shaping our world. At its core, though, it’s about love, memories and our desire for its permanence. The two protagonists cling to a fleeting moment before being torn apart before being torn apart by forces beyond their control. But rather than accept their fate, they fight back, breaking free and dissolving into something greater, something infinite out in space.”
WE ALWAYS HAD TOMORROWmarks a poignant return for Miami Horror. Emerging ten-years since their last full length, the arrival signals a profound artistic awakening. The reflective, genre-defying new record delves into themes of childhood, coming of age, and the cyclical nature of life. It serves as a concept album that transports listeners through time and space, blending the danceable energy of nostalgic samples with atmospheric soundscapes. The album sees Miami Horror collaborating with a myriad of Australian collaborators including Telenova, Tim Ayre, Woodes, Beckah Amani, Ngaiire, and ARIA-nominated producer Styalz Fuego (Troye Sivan, Tate McCrae, The Knocks), amongst other international names like RAC, Robotaki, Ayoni, and more.
Reflecting on the album’s creation, Plant shares, “This album began all the way back in 2020. During that time, I was contemplating life a lot…I think we all were. At the same time, I was also learning to play the piano. These two things came together at the right time, setting the melancholic mood and the themes of the album. I wanted to find our own artistic space and approached the album as if it would be my last. And truthfully, you never really know when it will be.”
“REMEMBER,” which features musician Tim Ayre, is a nod to all the times we’ll miss, filtered through a glitzy disco mood. While “GLOWIN’” is a nostalgic and emotive track that’s more focused on heavy sampling and a throwback to the 1960s. “LOST SEASONS” cuts a bit deeper and explores visual memories of the lost seasons of childhood, through a bittersweet melancholy mood. Driven by lush undertones and Plant’s emotive vocals, “LOST SEASONS” serves as a reminder to cherish one’s innocence and remain hopeful for the future. Co-written by Lach Bostock of Mansionair, the track also features a significant collaboration with Grammy-winning producer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter RAC, who adds his signature touch to the production.
“AURORA / DEAD FLOWERS” contemplates existence, change, and the natural cycles of life, flowing effortlessly from what Plant recalls as one of the more magical moments of his writing process. “TOGETHER” is a nostalgic anthem about unity that encapsulates the innocent optimism of childhood. Built around a captivating sample from underground soul legend Errol Stubbs, the track is a vibrant fusion of downtempo disco and indie pop.
In the end, the 11-track album provides a nostalgic yet distinctive listening experience. More than a collection of songs, it’s a journey through adolescence, growth, and the interconnectedness of the universe. With its sonic innovation and striking creativity, the record offers an enthralling exploration of personal themes, filled with profound emotion.
