Good morning! Your St. Louis Cardinals are now 32–24 on the season. It was a great win last night in Baltimore, and another series victory. Did you know the Cardinals have now won 7 of their last 8 series? The Cubs won again, so St. Louis remains three games back in the National League Central standings.

Before we get to the series with the Rangers coming up on Friday, we’ll use Thursday to rest, relax, and reflect on Wednesday night in Bird Land.

Cardinals Win 6–4: Three Stars of the Game

Masyn Winn

Four hits for the young shortstop! Suddenly, the 23-year-old is hitting .278 on the season. The Cardinals pounded out 12 hits, and 33% of them came from Winn. His double cut the lead to one in the fifth inning. He then tied it on the home run by Donovan. This is the Winn the Cardinals expected at the top of the order.

Brendan Donovan

The dude continues to rake. He remains near the top of the National League in batting average, with another three-hit night. Only Freddie Freeman and Will Smith have better batting averages. Donovan is now hitting .335 on the season. His two-run home run put the Redbirds on top, and they stayed there for the rest of the game. The top three hitters in the Cardinals’ order accounted for 9 of the 12 hits.

The Bullpen

Miles Mikolas didn’t give the Cardinals what they needed last night. He went four innings, allowing nine hits and four runs. But the bullpen stepped up. St. Louis covered the final five innings with a clean effort—just three hits allowed and no runs. Two of those hits came in the ninth inning, where Ryan Helsley secured his 12th save of the season.

Next Up: Road Series in Arlington

Next up for the Cardinals is a road series in Arlington, Texas, starting Friday. Matthew Liberatore gets the nod for Game 1. He has been strong, posting a 2.73 ERA on the season. Sonny Gray and Erick Fedde will follow. Texas is bringing some serious heat to the mound as well, including the deGrominator, Jacob deGrom, slated to pitch on Sunday.

Enjoy the Off Day!
