Los Angeles indie artist and producer meija has released his first short film, There’s Always Something, a companion to his sophomore album of the same name and a collaboration with Latin Grammy-nominated LA-based director Redamo Rosa. The film, which premiered at the Holly Shorts Festival, features visionary Jamie Sierota, as well as E from EELS and JAWNY, with whom he collaborated on official music videos (POSSUM ft. EELS, MAGIC ft. JAWNY) that are intertwined into the overall narrative. The film has since go on to be a semifinalist at the New York Indie Short Awards and nominated for the Best Short Of the Season at the Indie Short Fest.

His sophomore album, There’s Always Something, which inspired the film, is a creative and personal evolution that effortlessly elevates his DIY aesthetic and leans harder into ‘90s alternative influences, from the Eels to Sparklehorse to Beck and Primal Scream, plus draws lyrical inspiration from stories in Greek mythology like The Odyssey and Sisyphus. The album was recorded and produced by Sierota in his home studio on the east side of Los Angeles and features collaborations with the aforementioned EELS, JAWNY, and Hand Habits.
While on tour with Phantogram, he stopped by the iconic Audiotree studio in Chicago to live record an EP of seven previously released tracks, including his popular track, “Buttons,” which has amassed over 20 million streams from his first EP, and new single “MAGIC.”
