On a fridged Thursday night in February, The Sunrise City Tour brought warmth, hope, and all of the good vibes. The night started with a special VIP meet & greet with Sub-Radio along with an acoustic performance and photo opportunities with the band. Each VIP got a signed tour poster, the band also gave out friendship bracelets, and some fans even got to chat 1-1 with some of the band members.
Once doors opened for general admission, Skully’s Music Diner, a venue known for its intimate setting and vibrant atmosphere, was buzzing with anticipation. As the crowd filled the room, the energy was palpable. DOUBLECAMP, an indie-pop duo from Nashville, opened the show and set the tone for the evening. The duo delivered a high energic and captivating performance that left the audience wanting more. The crowd was jumping and singing along to their favorite songs like “Bill Murray”, “Smoke and Mirrors”, “Confetti” and their newest release “Stay Dry”.
When Sub-Radio took the stage, the room erupted in cheers. The band’s infectious energy and genuine connection with the audience created an electric atmosphere. Sun-Radio is an indie-pop band from Washington, DC and rose in popularity during 2020 by streaming live performances on Reddit (r/RedditSessions) streams (RIP Reddit Sessions). They played a mix of fan favorites like “Pink Lemonade”, “Caroline”, “King of my Heart”, and one of their newest tracks “Onto Me”. Throughout the performance, the lead singer, Adam, took the breaks in between the songs of the set to deliver heartfelt speeches, ranging from fun antidotes to serious hard-hitting topics like transgender rights. The highlight of the night was their encore performance of “Flashback”; the moment the wacky arm inflatable tube men shot up on stage, the crowd went erupted with excitement.
Throughout the evening, it was evident that Sub-Radio’s music transcends mere entertainment; it brings people together and creates a sense of community. Both Sub-Radio’s and DOUBLECAMP’s ability to connect with their fans on such a personal level, combined with their powerful music and high energy performances were the perfect warm up to a cold winter night in Ohio.
