Alternative folk artist/producer Rabbitology (Nat Timmerman) shares her debut EP, Living Ghost, out via Nettwerk Music Group.
Living Ghost is a “midwestern gothic” folktronica collection of 6 self-produced songs themed around various forms of stagnancy. Created from the confines of her dorm room at the University of Michigan, the EP tells a short story, an interpretation of her world from the perspective of someone who feels like a ghost in their own life. Through haunting storytelling, Rabbitology explores themes of the feminine experience and notions of mental instability, both fictional and biographical, that serve as proof of resilience against all odds.
Touching on her experience growing up in the church, her struggles with a panic disorder and paranoia, and the embracing of change, Living Ghost builds an immersive world for the souls who never quite fit in, who found themselves like ghosts, drifting between realms, never finding anywhere to settle.
Along with the EP comes the lyric video for the final track, “Wildfire (Gone, Gone, Gone) / Death Song,” a song dedicated to breaking the stagnancy that persists within the previous 5 tracks. Acting as a ‘goodbye’ song of sorts, “Wildfire” is a hopeful ode to the death and rebirth of not just a relationship, but of a person. With samples of fire sounds pervading this song’s sonic palette, “Wildfire” rises in volume and vocal pitch, eventually bursting into angry screams and leading into “Death Song,” where Rabbitology ultimately embraces the change. As the sole producer of her work, Rabbitology transforms a narrative of passive observation into one of fierce reclamation, empowering their fans to rise beyond their constraints and assert their voices in the face of adversity.
