Saint Louis University has added West Virginia transfer Kobe Johnson to its men’s basketball roster, SLU head coach Josh Schertz announced today.
“We are excited to have Kobe join our program,” Schertz said. “He plays the game with great competitive character and impacts winning on both ends of the floor at a high level. Kobe has demonstrated the ability to play both with and without the ball offensively. His combination of great lateral quickness, instincts and length gives him a chance to be an elite defender for us. We can’t wait to see Kobe in a Billiken uniform.”
A 6-foot-3 guard, Johnson played three years at West Virginia and will conclude his eligibility next season with the Billikens. He appeared in 92 games (34 starts) as a Mountaineer and averaged 3.2 points.
Johnson enjoyed his best season in 2023-24 when he started 26 games and averaged 6.0 points and 2.2 assists. He also recorded 17 steals and blocked 10 shots for West Virginia.
A Canton, Ohio, native, Johnson prepped at Canton McKinley High and was named the Ohio Division I Player of the Year by the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association. As a senior, he averaged 20.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists. Johnson is McKinley’s all-time leading scorer with 1,566 career points.
Johnson is the eighth new Billiken brought on by Schertz and the SLU staff. The Billikens have accounted for 11 of their 13 scholarships for the 2024-25 season.
