Country, Punk, downright Rock & Roll…these guys do it all – including appearing on the Arch City Music Podcast where we previewed their upcoming albums as well as their concert this Saturday at The Camp at Lake Wappapello, courtesy of Summit Entertainment Live.

I was first introduced to Austin Upchurch by my Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify as long as a year ago. I vividly

remember hearing his hit single “Pearson Road” and thinking “I love this, I oughta check this dude out” but failing to do so until just a few weeks ago when he was named as the replacement opener for Dylan Wheeler – since then his entire discography has been on repeat and I simply cannot get enough of his music.

Austin grew up in Godley, Texas, a half hour southwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and in the heat of the budding Texas music scene where he grew up surrounded by musical innovation and creativity – which are very apparent influences on his unique, genre-defying musical style. Listen to us talk about him being a shitty duck hunter, spontaneously guest-performing at a Thomas Rhett show, and his upcoming album – which includes a feature with childhood idol Bowling For Soup – here:

I may be new to the Austin Upchurch bandwagon but I am a longtime member of the Giovannie and the Hired Guns fan club. In the same way as Upchurch, Gio’s music can’t be labeled as any one genre and that’s a big part of its appeal – and that’s an aspect of their artistry that he’s particularly proud of. They refer to themselves as a “country rock and roll band” and while their music is so much more than that it does a great job of capturing both of those markets – both the country and rock and roll music worlds have embraced Gio and his band with open arms and serve as the biggest reason they are one of (if not THE) next big thing(s) in the world of music.

Their hit single “Ramon Ayala” is climbing the charts on rock radio and has reached as high as #3. It is projected to reach as high as #1, which would be the band’s first #1 hit, and they show no sign of stopping there. We talked about said single during the recording of our latest episode and the success it has seen in recent months in anticipation of the band’s third studio album “Tejano Punk Boys,” set to release sometime in the next few months. Hear that, discussions of mental health and its influence on their songwriting, the Texas music scene, and more here:
