Saint Louis University incoming freshman guard Ingvi Gudmundsson will represent his home country of Iceland at the FIBA U20 European Championship, which will take place this month in Chemnitz, Germany.
Iceland begins the tournament July 14 against Serbia at 11 a.m. (CT). Iceland is in Group D, which also includes Italy and Sweden. The daily schedule of the FIBA U20 European Championship can be found at http://www.fiba.basketball/europe/u20/2018/games.
Gudmundsson, who in April signed an NLI to attend Saint Louis University, has previous international experience. Last year, he played on the Iceland team that competed in Greece during the FIBA U20 European Championship. In 2016, Gudmundsson played for Iceland in the FIBA U18 European Championship B Division in Macedonia.
In addition to his international experience, Gudmundsson competes with the Grindavik basketball club, which plays in the Icelandic Domino’s League, the top league in Iceland. He is coming off a season in which he played all 25 games and averaged 10.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg and 3.5 apg. Gudmundsson shot 51.6 percent (47-91) from the field and 80 percent (32-40) from the free-throw line. His brother, Jon Axel, is a member of the Davidson men’s basketball team.
