THE BASICS
• Jordyn Frantz scored a game- and career-high 21 points to lead four Saint Louis players in double figures, but George Mason outscored the Billikens 22-10 over the final five minutes and posted an 81-72 Atlantic 10 Conference victory Wednesday night at EagleBank Arena.
• SLU fell to 10-10 overall and 4-3 in the A-10. George Mason improved to 16-5, 5-2.
• Frantz tied her career high of five 3-pointers (5-of-11) and scored 18 of her 21 points in the second half. She added a game-high three steals.
• Paige Rakers tallied 16 points, five rebounds and a career-high-tying four assists. Rakers matched her career best of four 3-pointers (4-of-8).
• Maddison Gits turned in 14 points and 11 rebounds, her second consecutive double-double and the fifth of her career.
• Jackie Kemph scored 10 points, pulled down a season-high seven rebounds and led all players with six assists.
FIRST QUARTER
• A Frantz 3-pointer and two baskets by Kemph gave Saint Louis a quick 7-0 lead.
• The Billikens led by as many as nine points before settling for a 17-13 edge at the end of the quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
• George Mason scored on its first three possessions to go in front for the first time, 19-17.
• The score was tied at 19, 22 and 24 before a jumper by Gits put SLU on top 26-24. There were five lead changes after that, and the quarter ended with George Mason leading 31-30.
THIRD QUARTER
• The Patriots registered the first five points of the second half to lead 36-30.
• The Billikens trailed 45-41 at the 5:18 mark when Frantz went on a personal 7-0 run. She drained a 3-pointer and made two layups, the second following a steal, and it was 48-45 Saint Louis with 4:22 left.
• Mason netted the next four points for a 49-48 edge, and there were four more lead changes before the quarter concluded with the teams knotted at 56 apiece.
FOURTH QUARTER
• Kemph’s layup on SLU’s second possession gave the Billikens a lead they held for more than six minutes.
• Mason took a 63-62 lead with 3:37 remaining, only to see Rakers bury a triple following an offensive rebound for a 65-63 Saint Louis advantage.
• However, that was the last lead the Billikens would own. With the score tied at 67, the Patriots embarked on a 10-0 run to seize control.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
• Saint Louis tied its season high for 3-pointers in an A-10 game, connecting 10 times from beyond the arc.
• Rakers has made at least two 3-pointers in seven consecutive games. She is 22-of-43 (51 percent) from beyond the arc over the last nine games.
• Gits has recorded a double-digit rebound total in four of the last six contests. She averaged 9.8 boards in those games.
