Saint Louis senior guard Davell Roby matched his career high with 23 points as the Billikens cruised to a 78-48 win over
Southeast Missouri State Friday night at Chaifetz Arena.
The Billikens, who led wire-to-wire, conclude the nonconference season with a 7-6 record. SEMO dips to 6-7.
SLU’s 78 points were a season high, and the 30-point margin of victory was the largest for the Billikens since defeating Rockhurst by 32 in the 2014-15 season.
Roby’s 23 points came on 9-of-15 shooting from the floor, 4-of-8 from 3-point range and 1-of-1 from the stripe. All but two of Roby’s points came in the second half.
Freshman guard Jordan Goodwin tallied 20 points (16 in the first half) and grabbed eight rebounds. He finished 9-of-13 from the field.
Junior guard Javon Bess registered his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also dished out a career-high five assists. Senior guard Aaron Hines was 5-of-7 from the floor and chipped in 12 points.
Senior center Rashed Anthony registered a career-high four blocks and matched his career-best with five rebounds.
SLU shot 55.2 percent (32-of-58) from the field, its best shooting performance since the second game of the season. The Billikens also drained a season-best eight 3-pointers and and finished with a 40-percent shooting clip from the arc.
Goodwin started the scoring for the Billikens with a 3-pointer, and later added a traditional 3-point play as the Billikens went up early and never looked back.
Midway through the first half, SEMO pulled to within three of the lead, but a 6-0 SLU run build a comfortable cushion and quickly grew its lead into double digits.
Roby hit two 3s to start the second half to put the Billikens ahead by 18, and the lead never fell below double figures as SLU cruised to the 30-point victory.
SLU begins Atlantic 10 Conference play on Saturday, Dec. 30, when it faces La Salle in Philadelphia. Game time is 1 p.m. (CT).
