Saint Louis University Director of Athletics Chris May announced today that the contract of men’s soccer head coach Mike McGinty will not be renewed. A search for a new head coach has begun.

“I want to thank Mike for his eight years of service to Saint Louis University and the men’s soccer program,” May said. “I appreciate his commitment to the success of our student-athletes, both in the classroom and on the field.

“Our competitive goals are to contend for championships and advance in the NCAA Tournament year in and year out,” May continued. “We will proceed with a national search that focuses on coaching candidates who embrace our department’s strategic objectives, as well as the men’s soccer program’s unparalleled heritage and the region’s strength in soccer.”

McGinty led the Billikens to an 81-56-14 record during his eight-year tenure. He was named Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year three times (2012, 2013, 2016); advanced to the NCAA Tournament twice (2012 and 2014); and won the 2012 A-10 Tournament championship.

“The last eight years have been great experience for me and my family, and I am grateful to have been the head coach of this program,” McGinty said. “I want to thank Chris May and the SLU administration, and the Billiken soccer community including the great alumni. Most of all, thank you to the players and coaches who I had the opportunity to work with during my time at SLU.”

The 2017 Billikens finished 7-9-1 overall and in eighth place in the A-10 with a 4-4 record.

May also announced that assistant coaches Brian Grazier and Michael Robson will remain on staff during the hiring process.
