Saint Louis freshman forward Megan Nixon has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference women’s soccer co-Rookie of the Week for the period of Aug. 28-Sept. 3. It is Nixon’s first career A-10 weekly award.
Nixon scored a goal in each of the Billikens’ two victories last week. She collected her first collegiate points when she found the back of the net in the 43rd minute at SIUE, giving the Billikens a 1-0 lead in a game they went on to win 3-0. Nixon struck again at Missouri State, scoring just 28 seconds into the second half to extend SLU’s lead to 2-0. The Bills won 3-0 to remain unblemished on the season.
Nixon is the fourth Saint Louis women’s soccer player to earn an A-10 weekly award this season, joining Maddie Pokorny (Aug. 28 Offensive Player of the Week), Evie Lavelle (Aug. 21 co-Offensive Player of the Week) and Olivia Petit (Aug. 21 Rookie of the Week). At least one Billiken has been honored by the conference in each of the first three weeks of the season.
Off to the best start in program history at 6-0, the Billikens host 19th-ranked Kansas (5-1) at Robert R. Hermann Stadium Friday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. The SLU Department of Athletics is attempting to break the state of Missouri collegiate women’s soccer single-game attendance record, which was set by the 2000 Billikens.
