Taylor Acorn Expands Poster Child with Deluxe Edition, Leading With the Quiet Exhaustion of “Batteries”

Taylor Acorn released Poster Child Deluxe today through Fearless Records, adding new material that stretches the 2025 album’s already wide emotional range. Where the original record often leaned into bright, early-2000s-tinged pop-rock, the expanded edition makes more room for the quieter, more introspective side of her songwriting.

The clear centerpiece is the focus track “Batteries,” a sparse acoustic ballad about mental fatigue and the urge to unplug when everything feels like too much. Soft guitar and restrained vocals open the song before subtle percussion and layered harmonies gradually lift it, keeping the emphasis on Acorn’s delivery and the directness of the lyric. She wrote it immediately after finishing the original Poster Child sessions and knew she wanted it included if the project ever grew. In her words, the song captures how she—and a lot of other people—feel amid the constant pressure of the world and ordinary life: the desire to shut it all off, even briefly.

The deluxe also includes the previously released singles “Growing Pains” and “Isn’t It Strange” (featuring Knox). “Growing Pains” looks at the gap between getting older and actually having things figured out, while “Isn’t It Strange” takes a lighter, more romantic angle on how two people can find each other in unexpected ways. Both have already picked up playlist support across rock, pop, and country lanes, underscoring the way Acorn moves between styles without forcing a single identity. An acoustic version of “Crashing Out” further strips one of the original album’s songs down to its core, giving a different window into the same emotional territory.

Poster Child itself marked a turning point. It was Acorn’s first full-length on Fearless Records after nearly a decade of independent releases. Working with longtime collaborator and producer Dan Swank and songwriting partner Emma Lynn White, she shaped a record that drew on the pop-punk and pop-rock sounds she grew up with while keeping the songwriting personal. Tracks such as the energetic “People Pleaser,” the more exposed “Hangman,” and the closing “Masquerade” already showed her willingness to move between confidence and vulnerability; the deluxe simply continues that thread.

Acorn will take the updated set on the road in November, joining State Champs on their U.S. headline tour. Known for strong vocals and high-energy live performances, she is set to bring the new material to audiences across the country. For local fans, that includes a November 8 stop at The Pageant in St. Louis.

The expanded release keeps the core of what made the original Poster Child connect—direct songwriting and a voice that can shift from bright to raw—while giving listeners a clearer sense of the quieter spaces Acorn is exploring as well.
