St. Louis CITY SC left Sports Illustrated Stadium with a statement result Wednesday night, beating the New York Red Bulls 3-0 and collecting its first victory over the club.
Rafael Navarro put CITY SC in front in the fourth minute, heading home from the center of the box into the bottom left corner. Conrad Wallem and Tomas Totland supplied the service. The goal was Navarro’s fifth of the season, and the visitors carried the lead into the break.
The match stayed 1-0 until the final minutes. Simon Becher, on in the 71st minute for Alex Mățan, made it 2-0 in the 87th with a right-footed strike from outside the box that found the bottom right corner, assisted by Chris Durkin. Tomáš Ostrák, introduced for Navarro in the 85th minute, added the third in the first minute of stoppage time, finishing from the center of the box with help from Sangbin Jeong.
The win extended CITY SC’s unbeaten run to 19 matches across all competitions and gave the side a second clean sheet on the road in as many weeks. Roman Bürki, the captain, made four saves.
Becher’s finish was his ninth league goal and 10th in all competitions. He has scored in three straight matches spanning MLS and U.S. Open Cup play. Ostrák’s goal was his second of the season and third overall. Durkin and Jeong each recorded a fourth assist of 2026. Wallem’s helper was his team-leading ninth of the season — and his ninth in as many matches — while Totland picked up his sixth league assist and eighth across all competitions. Over their last 10 matches, the Norwegian wingbacks have combined for 17 goal contributions.
CITY SC has scored three or more goals in eight of its last 14 matches since the league returned from the World Cup break. On Wednesday the visitors outshot the Red Bulls 14-11 and put seven efforts on target to New York’s five. Each side committed 12 fouls. Timo Baumgartl was cautioned in the 35th minute; Emil Forsberg received a yellow in the 86th.
Head coach Yoann Damet said the group handled a postponed kickoff and a reshuffled week as well as it could, noting the decision came early enough for the club to fly home and keep its preparation intact. He called the clean sheet a useful reminder that CITY SC cannot count on scoring two or three every night, and pointed to the work the players are putting in when they defend.
Damet also credited the substitutes. Becher, Ostrák, Jeong and Lukas MacNaughton entered with the game stretched and the Red Bulls pushing. He said the changes brought energy and better composure, and that the contributions reflected a full squad working together — including the players who stayed behind.
CITY SC returns home to face LA Galaxy on Sunday, October 11, at Energizer Park. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CT.
