Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that a live-action feature adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera animated series The Jetsons is in development, with comedy icon Jim Carrey attached to star. The project was referenced in the studio’s second-quarter 2026 shareholder letter, placing it among titles planned for the slate beyond 2027.
The announcement elevates earlier reports from October 2025, when Carrey was said to be in talks for the lead role and Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow was attached to direct, with Trevorrow and Joe Epstein (The Idol) in discussions to write the screenplay. While those creative attachments have not been newly confirmed alongside the shareholder letter, the studio’s public acknowledgment marks a significant step forward for a long-gestating property.
The Jetsons, which premiered on ABC in 1962 as a futuristic counterpart to The Flintstones, follows the everyday adventures of George Jetson, his wife Jane, their children Judy and Elroy, dog Astro, and robot maid Rosie in the gleaming, gadget-filled world of Orbit City. The original series ran for one season before a mid-1980s revival added more episodes, and the franchise reached theaters with the 1990 animated feature Jetsons: The Movie.
