Last night, The RetroNerds brought their signature high-energy, video-synced tribute style to The Old Rock House in St. Louis for a double-feature night: KICK-X: A Tribute to INXS and ONE: A Tribute to U2.
As an all-ages show starting at 8 PM, the venue was buzzing with fans of ’80s and ’90s rock nostalgia, and the crowd got exactly what they came for—a non-stop celebration of two iconic bands.
The RetroNerds, a long-running St. Louis-based 80s tribute act known for their nerdy attire and tech-heavy production (syncing live performances to original music videos on multiple screens), delivered a polished and fun double-header. KICK-X kicked things off with INXS’s smooth, danceable hits like “Need You Tonight,” “New Sensation,” and “Devil Inside.” The band nailed the swagger and groove, with spot-on vocals and that signature sax-driven energy that made INXS so timeless. The video sync added a cool MTV throwback vibe, and the crowd was dancing from the first chord.
After a short break, ONE took the stage for U2, cranking up the stadium-sized sound with anthems like “With or Without You,” “Where the Streets Have No Name,” and “Sunday Bloody Sunday.” The performance captured Bono’s soaring vocals and The Edge’s iconic guitar tones remarkably well, complete with atmospheric lighting that made the intimate Old Rock House feel like a bigger venue for a moment. The transitions between the two sets were seamless, and the overall flow kept the energy high throughout the night.
The legendary Charles Glenn joined the band, playing the part of another legend, B.B. King, for U2’s 1988 track “When Love Comes to Town.”
The Old Rock House itself was a perfect fit—great sound, good lighting, solid sightlines, and that historic charm. The all-ages crowd mixed longtime fans with younger folks discovering these classics, and everyone left smiling.
If you’re into tribute shows that go beyond just covers and deliver a full multimedia experience, The RetroNerds’ INXS/U2 night is a must-see. Solid musicianship, killer song choices, and pure fun—highly recommended!
