Seattle fought back, scratching across two runs to tie the score, capitalizing on a rare blemish from the Tigers’ bullpen during Rafael Montero’s brief stint. The Mariners’ offense, powered by their dynamic rotation, couldn’t muster more against Detroit’s resilient relief corps, which logged seven innings and allowed just one earned run overall.

After two strikeouts, utility man Zach McKinstry—mired in an 0-for-17 skid—laced a game-winning single up the middle off a 99.6 mph sinker from Mariners reliever Carlos Vargas, plating Torkelson for the go-ahead run and what would prove to be the decisive tally. “Looking for a sinker there.
