Actress Orla Brady, best known for her portrayal of the enigmatic Romulan housekeeper Laris in Star Trek: Picard, has been cast as the voice of F.R.I.D.A.Y. in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series Vision Quest.

The announcement, made by showrunner Terry Matalas during a panel at Star Trek Las Vegas, has sparked excitement among fans of both franchises.

Orla Brady is an Irish actress with a diverse career spanning television, film, and theater. She gained widespread recognition for her role as Laris in Star Trek: Picard, where she played a former Tal Shiar agent turned confidante to Jean-Luc Picard. Brady’s performance brought depth and intrigue to the character, appearing in multiple seasons of the Paramount+ series. Her other notable credits include roles in Fringe as Elizabeth Bishop, Into the Badlands as Lydia, and American Horror Story: 1984 as Dr. Karen Hopple. Brady’s ability to embody complex, intelligent characters makes her a fitting choice for an AI role in the MCU.

F.R.I.D.A.Y., which stands for Female Replacement Intelligent Digital Assistant Youth, is an artificial intelligence created by Tony Stark in the MCU. Introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), F.R.I.D.A.Y. served as a backup to J.A.R.V.I.S. after the latter was integrated into the Vision. She became Stark’s primary AI in subsequent films like Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Avengers: Infinity War, providing tactical support, humor, and operational assistance in his Iron Man suits. Previously voiced by Kerry Condon—who has since appeared in projects like Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and the upcoming F1 film with Brad Pitt—the role is now being recast with Brady, marking a fresh take on the character.

The casting reunites Brady with Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas, who is helming Vision Quest. Matalas, praised for his work on Picard‘s third season, described his experience with Marvel as a “wonderfully collaborative” one. This collaboration extends to other Picard alumni, including Todd Stashwick, who joins the series as Paladin—an anti-hero assassin from Marvel Comics tasked with hunting Vision for his advanced technology.

Vision Quest serves as a follow-up to the acclaimed WandaVision (2021), focusing on Paul Bettany’s Vision as he navigates his identity and existence post-resurrection. The series promises to delve into themes of artificial intelligence, consciousness, and family, with a cast that emphasizes AI characters. Confirmed returning actors include Bettany as Vision and James Spader as Ultron, the villainous AI from Avengers: Age of Ultron, who may appear in live-action form—possibly as a human avatar or holographic projection. New additions feature T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, an AI created by Ultron in the comics as his “bride,” who eventually defects to the Avengers.

Brady’s F.R.I.D.A.Y. could play a pivotal role in exploring Vision’s connections to Tony Stark’s legacy and the broader AI ecosystem in the MCU. With Paladin as an antagonist, the series may involve high-stakes pursuits and ethical dilemmas surrounding synthetic life.

The show is part of Marvel’s 2026 Disney+ slate, alongside Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 and X-Men ’97 Season 2, though an exact release date has yet to be announced.
