Aaron Taylor-Johnson will play the lead in Robert Eggers’ Werwulf, a medieval werewolf thriller set for release on December 25, 2026.
Lily-Rose Depp is in talks to co-star as the werewolf’s wife, reuniting with Taylor-Johnson and Eggers after Nosferatu.
Set in 13th-century England, Werwulf features Old English dialogue and promises to be Eggers’ darkest film yet, blending horror and folklore with his signature historical authenticity. Taylor-Johnson’s intense performance is expected to anchor the film, following his acclaimed roles in Nosferatu and 28 Years Later. Fans on X are buzzing, with @filmbrinas already “seated” for the premiere.
Eggers, co-writing with Sjón, is producing alongside Focus Features, with filming starting September 2025. The film’s gritty, primal setting and potential Willem Dafoe cameo have heightened anticipation for this chilling addition to Eggers’ oeuvre.
