The Gateway Grizzlies suffered a 4-0 shutout loss to the Lake Erie Crushers on Saturday night at Crushers Stadium, ending their three-game winning streak.
In the first inning, Jarrod Watkins hit a solo home run off Grizzlies pitcher Zac Treece (2-2) with two outs, giving the Crushers an early 1-0 lead. Treece pitched scoreless second and third innings but struggled in the fourth, allowing three runs as the Crushers extended their lead to 4-0.
Crushers pitcher Anthony Escobar (6-1) dominated, throwing seven scoreless innings, allowing only three singles and two hit batters, continuing his streak of 20 consecutive scoreless innings against Gateway. Relievers Brandyn Sittinger and Michael Brewer pitched perfect eighth and ninth innings to secure the Crushers’ second shutout of the season against the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies aim to rebound and win the series in the deciding game on Sunday, June 29, at 12:05 p.m. CT at Crushers Stadium. Starting pitchers for both teams are yet to be announced.
