A group is forming to put together a bid to bring a WNBA franchise to St. Louis!

As of right now it looks like the group is being co-led by David Hoffmann and Richard Chaifetz.

St. Louis native NBA star Jayson Tatum has agreed to invest in the team. The NBA’s collective bargaining agreement allows NBA players to own up to 4% of WNBA franchises.

They have been showing a presentation to other potential investors that highlights St. Louis’ basketball history and the support that the Cardinals, Blues, CITY, Battlehawks, and college teams have seen in the region.

SLU’s Chaifetz Arena was named as a potential venue.

The WNBA has 12 teams and is in the process of expanding to 16. The 13th, 14th, and 15th teams were awarded to NBA cities San Francisco, Portland, and Toronto.

St. Louis’ competition for the 16th spot is expected to include more than a dozen cities… Denver, Miami, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Austin, Charlotte are cities that are interested as well. The owners of the KC Current announced their bid that included Patrick Mahomes as an investor.
