Wilco have released their first single off of the new album, “Cousins,” called “Evicted.” While the new single is reminiscent of some of Wilco’s recent singer/storyteller work, it’s rumored that producer, Cate le Bon is taking them back to a more experimental time in their recording history. According to Wilco, the new album will utilize “Le Bon’s influences—among them the inclusion of saxophone, cheap Japanese guitars, and a cinematic, New Wave-style drum machine—drive the album into the future.”
Using Cate Le Bon as producer marks the first time an outsider has been actively involved in a Wilco recording session for more than twenty years, since the album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
The rest of the “Cousins” will be coming out on September 29.
“I’m cousin to the world,” frontman Jeff Tweedy confesses. “I don’t feel like I’m a blood relation, but maybe I’m a cousin by marriage.”
He’s visiting his St. Louis “cousins” on October 26 at the Stifel Theater. Tickets on sale now.
