She aims to find herself squarely on the fringes and exactly where she belongs: singing and writing songs for the underdog. And that’s exactly where her new album ‘ Everywhere I Used to Be’ lives (due out Aug 12, 2022 on Birthday Cake Records).

Canadian singer/songwriter Mariel Buckley has announced that she’ll follow 2018’s Driving in the Dark with Everywhere I Used to Be, on August 12 via Birthday Cake Records. The first single is “Shooting at the Moon,” a propulsive heartland rock/alt-country song that comes with soaring pedal steel, a War On Drugs-y rhythm section, and a hook that you’ll be humming after one listen. Buckley says “While I’ve been great at speaking my mind in person, my music has often remained a vague, if not softer representation of my stuff, until now.”
Mariel has toured most of Canada for the last decade, and will travel across the Atlantic for her first UK tour beginning in September. Her singer/songwriter style has been compared to “a new Loretta Lynn, Townes Van Zant and Joan Jett style.” She declares herself as the “queen of the one-star room.” Mariel joined the Arch City Music Podcast to discuss her new album and what these songs meant to her. She discussed the importance of track order on her new album, and a little about life on the road.
