Ownership Group Preparing Bid For Potential MLB Expansion Team In Nashville

Music City Baseball appointed three-time World Series Champion Dave Stewart to lead its initiative to land a team in Nashville, TN during baseball’s next round of expansion, likely with the next three to five years.

The ownership group filed for a trademark of a logo that included 3 red stars, back in 2020.

The logo is similar to the one used by the Nashville Stars of the Negro Leagues in the 1940-50s. They have said their expansion team will also be called the Nashville Stars and pay homage to the Negro Leagues.

Expansion is a priority for baseball, which is in the longest period in it’s history without adding new teams. The last time was 1998, when Arizona and Tampa Bay joined the league. Commissioner Rob Manfred has said that it must first resolve stadium issues in Oakland and Tampa Bay before they can expand.

Neither city has long-term stadium commitments in their respective cities. Tampa Bay once pursued a joint Montreal-Tampa Bay solution that was rejected by Manfred, while A’s owner John Fisher has made a public bid to attempt to relocate to Las Vegas while pursuing a new ballpark in Oakland.
