I’ve been suggesting this show to my friends for the past year, but Prime Video has opted to not renew Outer Range for a third season despite good ratings. Disappointing.

The show was a sci-fi, time traveling, sci-fi mystery… kind of a mix of Yellowstone, Dark, and maybe a little Lost.

It followed rancher Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin) in Wyoming, fighting for his land and family after discovering a mysterious void on his land. In addition to Brolin, it has Will Patton who is amazing in everything he is in, and Imogen Poots.

The first season was full of fascinating mysteries and interesting characters that ended with a crazy twist and left me wanting more. The second season released on May 16th and it got incredibly wacky and off-the-wall, and it set up some really interesting storylines that desperately needed a third season.

It follows solid early US ratings data, with the release of the new season propelling Outer Range to #3 on the Nielsen Streaming Originals chart for the week of May 20 with 476M hours viewed and #8 for the week of May 27 with 314M.

Outer Range was executive produced by Charles Murray, Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Ernest McNealey, Brolin, Tony Krantz, Heather Rae and Jon Paré. Brolin made his directorial debut in the Season 2’s penultimate episode.
