Straight up 9 p.m. the lights went dark. “I’m Fake” began playing over the sound system at this sold-out Friday night concert at Delmar Hall and the crowd began shouting along with the spoken words as the top of their lungs. The Used entered the darkened room, and with nothing more than a small light leak showing his thin, muscular frame, frontman Bert McCracken grabbed the microphone, taking over in the middle of the song. The rest of the night was a blur of hardcore rock ’n’ roll, frenzied fans singing along to every song, and pure adrenaline from McCracken even when he occasionally paused to address the jam-packed crowd in a chit-chatty sort of way, “We love St. Louis. So fucking good to be here … before we play a bunch of old songs, how are you?”

And old songs they did play. From “Take it Away” to “Empty With You,” to “All That I’ve Got,” “Buried Myself Alive,” “Paralyzed,” and “A Box Full of Sharp Objects.” They snuck in their new single (the first new song released in two years) “Blow Me” mid-way through the concert.
Seattle newcomers Dragged Under opened the night with 30-minutes of nonstop alt-metal/punk/hard rock. And while we’re not quite sure which songs they played we’ll surmise it was several from The World Is in Your Way.
Oh, and Tony (Cappocchi, lead singer of Dragged Under), if you’re reading this, here are a bunch of ginger ale brands.
