The 6th annual Art of Live Festival wrapped up its final night of hosting national and local emerging musical artists on Saturday, January 18, at Off Broadway and Old Rock House. Arch City Media covered the Old Rock House segment featuring *repeat repeat of East Nashville, TN, Stef Chura of Detroit, MI and Jesus Christ Supercar of St. Louis, MO.

This frigid January night marked *repeat repeat’s first concert of 2020 and frontman Jared Corder joked early on he wanted to rename Old Rock House “Cold Rock House.” Fortunately, ORH didn’t take long to warm up with the band’s raw, buzzy power pop rock coursing throughout the venue where crowd members could not help but break out into robust dancing. Their vivacious 80-minute set wowed new and old fans alike with newer material off of Glazed such as “Hi, I’m Waiting,” and “City of Stars” along with toe-tapping fan favorites “Girlfriend” and “Ghost.”

Corder shared that “St. Louis has always been good to us. It was one of the first cities we played on our first tour.” (Their most recent time in St. Louis was September 25, 2019 opening for The Black Keys at Enterprise Center.)

Sharing in their confusion on how to do an encore when there was really nowhere for the band to go, Corder wondered if they should just sing an extra song instead. When the time came, the already dark lights dimmed even more as the band members squatted down to hide in plain sight before ending the night on a high note with “I’ll Be the One You’re Growing Old With” and “I’m Not the One.”

Stef Chura took the middle slot of the night and mesmerized the growing crowd for the next 45-minutes with her straightforward alt/garage rock style. In a no-nonsense way, Chura led you high and low weaving you through a dark, yet dreamy tunnel with songs such as “Slow Motion,” “Sincerely Yours” and “Scream.”

St. Louis-based Jesus Christ Supercar kicked off the night with 30-minutes of nonstop power garage rock ‘n’ roll they dub “fuzz-disco.” Formed in 2018, the matching jean jacket wearing trio has quickly cemented itself as a must-see band. Their 30-minute set included “I Think I Stepped in Hit” and “Eye For an Eye.”
