Javonte Perkins, a 6-7 guard/forward from Southwestern Illinois College, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Saint Louis University and play basketball for the Billikens. Perkins will begin his two years of eligibility in the 2019-20 season.
A St. Louis native, Perkins is in his second season at SWIC. He prepped at Miller Career Academy in St. Louis.
“We are really excited about Javonte in that he is a versatile player who can play multiple positions,” SLU Head Coach Travis Ford said. “He is a four-man for his junior college, but he can really shoot it. Javonte is a prolific scorer in many different ways in that he can put it on the floor or can shoot 3s. He is gaining valuable experience at SWIC learning to play different positions, and that will translate well at our level.”
Last year at SWIC, Perkins averaged 20.0 ppg while shooting 60.5 percent from the field, 42.6 percent from 3-point range and 81.4 percent from the line. He also recorded 6.9 rpg. This year, Perkins is averaging 26.7 ppg through the Blue Storm’s first three games. He dropped 30 points on 11-of-22 shooting against Mineral Area on Nov. 7.
As a senior at Miller Career Academy in 2016-17, Perkins led the Phoenix with 20.8 ppg and 15.6 rpg. He also led the team in scoring as a junior (15.7 ppg) and sophomore (13.0 ppg).
Perkins is the fourth future Billiken the team has signed in the early signing period and joins a class that also includes Yuri Collins, Terrence Hargrove Jr. and Gibson Jimerson.
