Chelsey Carmody, who spent the past three seasons as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Iowa softball program, has been named assistant softball coach at Saint Louis University.

“Chelsey is from the St. Louis area and brings quality coaching experience as well as a terrific understanding of the game to our coaching staff,” head coach Christy Connoyer said. “She has a passion for the sport and is driven to improve the quality of each student-athlete as we continue to grow our program. Chelsey’s experience and commitment to excellence will help us continue to develop a successful program at Saint Louis University.”

A native of Pacific, Mo., Carmody helped guide Iowa – her alma mater – to 30 wins in 2013, the most for the Hawkeyes since 2009. Iowa posted six wins over ranked opponents.

In addition to her experience at Iowa, Carmody spent a year as an assistant coach at Clear Creek Amana High School (Tiffin, Iowa) and two years as an assistant coach for the St. Louis Chaos U-16 team.

Carmody started 208 games in the Hawkeyes’ infield and posted a .335 batting average during her four-year career (2008-11). She served as team captain as a junior and senior and received the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award following her senior season.

Carmody batted .320 or higher in each of her four seasons and registered career marks of 234 hits, 11 home runs, 87 RBIs and 42 stolen bases.

Carmody is a 2011 graduate of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in geography (emphasis in environmental science). She earned a coaching certificate at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 2013.
